Mano Confirms Alpha-1 Kimberlite to be Diamondiferous

  • 16 diamonds recovered from sample of Alpha 1 kimberlite in Liberia
  • 88% of the stones are described as white and transparent

Mano River Resources Inc. (“Mano”) is pleased to announce that the Alpha-1 kimberlite, recently discovered in its Mineral Cooperation Agreement (MCA) licence in Liberia, has proven diamondiferous. The MCA is a 70:30 contributory Joint Venture between Mano and the Government of Liberia and covers an area of some 15,000 square kilometres in the west of the country.

A 95kg sample of decomposed kimberlite, obtained through pitting, was submitted to SGS Lakefield in Canada for total diamond recovery. The Laboratory recovered a total of 16 diamonds, four of which are classified as macrodiamonds, having at least one dimension in excess of 0.5mm. These four macrodiamonds weigh a total of 0.018-carats. Two diamonds are larger than 1mm, the largest of which measures 1.37mm x 1.11mm x 0.37mm and is classified as a white, transparent, octahedral stone. Fourteen of the diamonds are described as white and transparent stones with the majority having octahedral morphology.

The Alpha-1 kimberlite was discovered in the MCA licence in April 2005, a mere four months after exploration commenced. It is located in an area that has been subjected to extensive artisanal alluvial diamond mining and these results suggest that this kimberlite is likely to be one of the sources of the alluvial diamonds. Mano subsequently discovered a second kimberlite, Alpha-2, some 300m to the north of Alpha-1 and although this has not yet been tested for diamond content, samples have been collected and are being processed for indicator mineral chemistry. Ground magnetics, gravity surveys and detailed loam sampling results in the vicinity suggest strong potential for further kimberlite discoveries to be made in the future.

Mano’s President and CEO, Dr. Tom Elder, comments: “We are very encouraged that Alpha-1 has proven diamondiferous. Mano has quickly identified a new diamondiferous kimberlite cluster in the west of Liberia and our investigations will continue in the MCA, both to advance the exploration and to conduct in parallel preliminary evaluation of all significantly diamondiferous kimberlites discovered.”

About Mano River Resources
Mano is a well-funded exploration company focused on the discovery of diamond, gold and iron ore deposits in the Archaean terrain of the highly prospective, under-explored, West African Mano River Union countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. Mano considers that the region has the potential to develop into a world-class diamond and gold mining province. The Company presently has over 25,000km2 under mineral licence, close to one million ounces of gold in resource, certainly one and possibly a second cluster of diamondiferous pipes and joint ventures in place with BHP-Billiton, Golden Star Resources, Navasota, Petra Diamonds and Trans Hex Group.
